Living and planning weddings in Florida, you’re always prepped for hurricane season. You create game plans in case of rain and heavy winds and always mentally prepare for a cancellation risk. Up until the last few years, we really haven’t had much to worry about. Since I started in this industry in 2011, we didn’t have a single storm threaten a wedding until 2016 and Hurricane Matthew.
Fast forward to 2017, and Hurricane Irma created even more headache and heartbreak for couples across the state as this week long storm created lasting impact. When planning a wedding in Florida, a lot of couples gravitate towards Spring dates trying to avoid hurricane season (June 1 – November 1). While that plan is good in theory and works 90% of the time, sometimes you get a storm like Irma that causes enough damage to impact lives months and years after the storm passes.
That’s what happened to Ana and Brandon. The couple planned a gorgeous tropical wedding in stunning Islamorada – one of Irma’s hardest hit areas. While they choose a date outside of hurricane season – February – the damage Irma did many months ago still impacted their day.
With talented and experienced vendors behind them, their team was able to pull off the couple’s dream day in beautiful Key Largo. With adorable pineapple details, bright colors, and tropical touches, this wedding has me dreaming of fruity cocktails, warm beaches and hammock swinging. Keep scrolling to see the full gallery.
From the Photographer
Ana & Brandon got engaged in the city of love and romance, Paris, so when they called me to book their engagement session and do their wedding I was over the roof! I have known Ana since we were little so having the opportunity to capture her special day meant the world to me.
Ana & Brandon got married at the Playa Largo Resort Autograph Collection in Key Largo, Florida, and their day could not have gone any better. Ana truly deserved her day to be perfect since it had a rough start. She was initially planning on getting married in Islamorada but due to Hurricane Irma there was a huge change in plans. Ana had a beautiful vision for her wedding and the great team of vendors she chose helped their dream wedding come to life. The couple exchanged vows alongside their closest family and friends and their excitement for their union was undeniable. As a wedding photographer who loves to capture emotion and tell beautiful love stories through my images I was on cloud nine with this wedding. A few of my favorite moments was the look on Ana’s mom when she saw her daughter in her lovely gown, it was priceless. The admiration of a mother for her only son. The laughter from her bridesmaids, and their sweet love with such a beautiful sunset.
